The Sun's Heartbeat, Book Review

The Sun's Heartbeat And Other Stories From The Life Of The Star That Powers Our Planet has all the requirements for an interesting book: a great collection of in depth stories, humour, startling facts and very entertaining to boot! I enjoyed this one right from page one!

Bob Berman brings to life what most of us takes for granted, using a colourful historical approach to describe our Sun and the rest of the solar system. Sunspots, magnetic variations, solar eclipses, fusion, astronomy and yes, even astrology are covered in an easy factual way which even a first grader would easily understand.

Teaching Science to home school children will be a cinch in my mind using this book. In fact I will add I thought to choose my favourite chapter but was hard pressed to decide on which one! Each chapter was a revelation and I can only described it as perfect!
An interesting reminder for example: the rise of Autism and other ailments is partly attributed to a lack of vitamin D following the introduction of sunblock, air conditioning and UV-stopping glass!

Thanks to Mr. Berman I also found out 22 Septembre will be a good time to see the Northern Lights in Alaska (Since I will be there, I plan to check it out!) albeit he also points out the lights are more intense from Decembre through March when it is much colder.

It remains for me to say this book would be a perfect addition to any family/School library and I heartily give it 5 stars!

I received this book free from HACHETTE Publishers as part of their Blogger Review program. I was not asked to write a positive review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own.
