The Sweetest Thing, Book Review

Publisher's description:

The Singleton family's fortunes seem unaffected by the Great Depression, and Perri--along with the other girls at Atlanta's elite Washington Seminary--lives a carefree life of tea dances with college boys, matinees at the cinema, and debut parties. But when tragedies strike, Perri is confronted with a world far different from the one she has always known.

At the insistence of her parents, Mary "Dobbs" Dillard, the daughter of an itinerant preacher, is sent from inner-city Chicago to live with her aunt and attend Washington Seminary, bringing confrontation and radical ideas. Her arrival intersects at the point of Perri's ultimate crisis, and the tragedy forges an unlikely friendship.

The Sweetest Thing tells the story of two remarkable young women--opposites in every way--fighting for the same goal: surviving tumultuous change.

My review:

The Sweetest Thing was just as the title suggested and a most enjoyable read! Here is an author who does not compromise her beliefs when she puts her pen to paper and her writing flows so neatly you almost feel yourself inside of a tableau!
No question about, I will be reading more of Elizabeth Musser's novels!
As the story develops, each chapter alternates betwixt both friends and the settings are so very much like the South I almost could hear the drawn out words and feel the heat under the drooping willow trees!
'The Sweetest Thing' is a most endearing story describing the wide spectrum of the wealthy and impoverished families of Atlanta in the 1930's!
This historical fiction set during an era we know best as the Great Depression encompass friendship, jealousy, betrayal and faith with each character vividly described and ready for you to discover!
This is a story with multi layers and not a few secrets!

You will quickly feel yourself immersed in this Christian novel which is certain to leave you with the need to refresh yourself with a glass of mint julep!
Finally, here is yet another chance for you to discover God's work so be sure to share this book with your best friend!

I give this book 4 stars!
